2008 [OLD VINE] Zinfandel - Soucie Vineyard, Lodi

THE FLAVORS & TASTES

Jammy, rich flavors of blackberry and currents, hints of cherries, a touch of cassis, cocoa and vanilla, plus a streak of mineral and earth the French call “terroir,” come together in this modern interpretation of classic Lodi Zinfandel.

THE VINEYARD

Planted in 1916 – owned by the same family for five generations.

Self-rooted, head-trained, unknown clone.

Soil type: DeVries Sandy Loam – very fine and powdery with little to no organic content.

Underground drip irrigation; only as needed.

Temperature variations of up to 50F daily due to “Delta Breeze.”

THE WINEMAKING

Extensive cluster selection in vineyard and the crusher.

Small bin fermentation; multiple yeast strains.

19.5 months in cellar, 25% new American oak.
